We're Proud of the Veterans in Our Family:

Amanda’s dad, Bob Avery, is a Vietnam War veteran, and flew OV-10’s and F-15’s in the Air Force. After Bob retired, he co-founded the Aviation Nation Foundation and served as it’s president, supporting the Air Force in showcasing United States air superiority through the annual air show at Nellis AFB. Bob pioneered themed air shows with Operation Welcome Home, Operation D-Day, Operation Thank You, and brought USO Shows to the event with performers such as Ann-Margret. He brought much healing to veterans through his work. The entire time, Bob refused to take a paycheck.

Amanda’s grandpa, Delbert Avery, served in the Army in the Korean War. Delbert was instrumental in increasing morale in his Unit. He built and operated an ice cream plant, producing 300-500 gallons of cream per day. Ingredients had to be hauled from miles around. The ice cream was delivered to the front line and lifted the spirits of his comrads in the trenches. General James Van Fleet visited Delbert to see it for himself and said, “this is the best damn ice cream i’ve ever had in Korea.”

John’s grandpa, John Hayes Sr., served in the Air Force during the Korean War. He was very proud of his service, and enjoyed working on the aircraft, keeping them well maintained. The Air Force gave him many skills he used throughout his life. John was full of great stories for anyone who’d pull up a chair and listen over a glass of beer. Amanda’s great-uncle, Robert Fairburn, served in WWII, landing on Utah Beach D-Day plus 4. Robert served valiantly in the 39th Infantry Regiment, 9th Infantry Division, Company E through many battles, including the Battle of Hurtgen Forest. At age 20, Robert made the ultimate sacrifice for his country. Bob Avery (below) was named in his honor.
